Paloma Jimenez. Diesel driven in chasing perfection

It’s Vin Diesel, who insists he doesn’t have a fast or furious approach to his career. He’s methodical and exacting about it. “I’m borderline obsessed with what I do for a living. I just love making movies,” he says. “And I’m in a very lucky position because I get to do these big action films that are larger than life.

“I’ve always wanted to be an actor and I took the slow route. I was a bouncer, and now I’m living my dream.” Part of his dream is “Fast & Furious,” opening Friday, which brings him back to the role that made him a star.

Fatback. Southern Thymes Cafe: Meat

The downtown Greer restaurant has been open for four years, and it serves breakfast and lunch seven days a week. Southern favorites such as country ham, fried flounder and country-style steak are on the lunch menu. The breakfast menu has a couple of items that makes it different when compared to a traditional meat-and-three, like a Tex Mex quesadilla and eggs Benedict.

“People label us as a meat-and-three, but once in a while, we throw something else in the mix to throw them off,” said Mitchell, the restaurant’s owner, who was able to get some reluctant customers to try carrot souffle. Southern Thymes has a homey setting, with two dining rooms. One has a mix of tables, booths and stools at a counter. Customers talk with friends at other tables and joke with waitresses during lunch. Another dining room has large tables that are popular with families.

Legend Hell House. His rivalry with Magic started with their historic duel in the 1979 NCAA championship game between Indiana State and Michigan State,

Indeed, James and Wade have yet to meet in a playoff series, never mind in the conference finals. They’ve met head to head 19 times, with James holding the slimmest of margins 10-9!, according to STATS. As long as they’re both in the East, they’ll only be able to dream of going head to head with a championship on the line.

“If you go through a war with somebody individually in the postseason, that helps,” James said. “But every night we go out, whether we play against each other or don’t play against each other, we’re kind of supportive of each other getting better.” Supporting each other? Hoping the other one gets better? Greatness comes packaged differently these days. As much as they’re rivals, James and Wade are friends, drawn to each other by common gifts and goals.

Dangerous Jobs. Those who work near Mexico

Frank Beltran drives to his Hermosillo office weekly, and he leaves well before the sun goes down. He avoids remote areas of Mexico when he can, relying primarily on the highway system to return to his Chandler headquarters or his home in Mesa. The international trade logistics coordinator used to take Mariposa Road, which traverses the outskirts of town and bypasses the busy streets of Nogales, Mexico. On Oct. 28, that road was closed and he had to drive through the heart of the border town.

An hour later, shots rang out, riddling homes, mercados and other small businesses with bullets. When the smoke cleared, police had killed 10 suspected drug traffickers. “Now, I just travel during the day,” said Beltran, who heads and has worked more than 15 years in the region.

Battlestar Galactica Plan. ‘Battlestar Galactica’ finale: interview with Ron Moore

Creator Ron Moore answers questions about his favorite episode and more. So the end of “Battlestar Galactica” is finally here — the Sci Fi Channel’s (soon to be Syfy’s) flagship show docks in the port of reruns and DVD lore. But there are a few questions left unanswered. Enter the show’s creator, Ron Moore, who supplied some answers without giving any spoilers.

Whose job was it to calculate the surviving humans? It was a three-way responsibility. There were people on physical production, people up in Vancouver. The first assistant director and the prop department would keep track on a white dry erase board aboard Colonial One, and then they would coordinate with the script coordinators who kept track of the script, and then with post-production, who would track the number that would be shown in the main title each week.

Evergreen Valley High School. Next month, three resident doctors at Chilliwack General Hospital are hosting a mini-med school, a forum for community education, providing insight into the world of medicine.

Become a doctor in just one evening. That’s right, one evening. No medical background, nor science background is required – just a keen interest in health care. Next month, three resident doctors at Chilliwack General Hospital are hosting a mini-med school, a forum for community education, providing insight into the world of medicine.

“This is an opportunity for people to advance their knowledge,” said Dr. Ryan Hoskins. Three lectures are being held over three evenings that cover breathing difficulty and smoking with lung disease, outdoors medicine, and everything you ever wanted to know about heart disease. In addition to better informing the public, mini-med school is also an opportunity for community members to get medical questions answered, concerns dealt with and myths dispelled.
