Ermey. Review: ‘In the Loop’

The snowball starts rolling when minor Cabinet minister Simon Foster makes a seemingly harmless remark during an interview (“War is unforeseeable”), precipitating a tornado of spin-doctoring. As the action shifts from London to Washington and ultimately to a climactic United Nations vote, operatives for and against military action engage in public relations jiu-jitsu. The lethally witty script contains sly references to current British politics and infamous foibles of the previous American administration, such as assigning important responsibilities to the young and inexperienced: “It’s like ‘Bugsy Malone,’ but with real guns.” Peter Capaldi’s hilariously volcanic Tucker owes less to Derek Jacobi’s master politician in “I, Claudius” than to R. Lee Ermey’s drill sergeant in “Full Metal Jacket.

” Tom Hollander’s Foster is an innocuous bumbler who realizes too late his role in this puppet theater. For the Yanks, James Gandolfini is a welcome presence as a bull-like general with strong convictions. David Rasche exudes slimy sub-rosa confidence as the Dick Cheney/Donald Rumsfeld stand-in. The film can feel like a series of dressings down, and the romantic subplots are superfluous, but “In the Loop” is a very effective, verbally blood-stained portrait of how a little brazen scheming on one side, coupled with selfishness and failure of nerve on the other, can actually change the world.

Itunes Download. Apple Bars Palm from iTunes: Is Pre a Threat?

Was it wrong for Apple to close the “hole” to the palm?: yes. Why would they write an iTunes client that can run on Windows if they didn’t want only Apple Macintosh products to use their software. They obviously know that if they completely close off the access to their services, sales would suffer. So yes Apple did write a Windows client for use on a MAC.

Did Microsoft write a MAC OS client for Windows? No. They don’t see a threat. If they didn’t close off iTunes from Microsoft using it, then why did they close it off to Palm? Because they see a possible threat.

Starcasm. That changed after he sailed through a high school project, came to believe that career largely would be lonely numbers-.

And he’s a picker of nits as fussy as the particular Pinkel. He so detests the Times New Roman font, for instance, that he’s been known to order graduate assistants to do over reports if they come in what he considers the lazy, default type face. “Everybody teases him about his hair,” Pinkel said. “Let’s analyze this for a second: First of all, he’s a very, very bright guy. He’s a family man, a great role model, very caring to all our players and one of the best teachers and coaches I’ve ever been around.

” Paralleling his surfer-dude surface, complete with a soul patch and a dolphin tattoo on his leg, the 39-year-old Yost’s rise is brimming with improbable flourishes. Growing up in Carrollton, Ohio, a village of 2,000, Yost initially hoped to be an accountant. That changed after he sailed through a high school project, came to believe that career largely would be lonely numbers-crunching and thought, “There is no way I want to do that the rest of my life.” By the time he enrolled at Kent State, Pinkel’s alma mater, he was fixated on teaching kindergarten.

Three Problem. “I believe in reverse 911 because it is not something fresh from Never, Never Land.” Like the other 11 JPs polled,

BENTONVILLE – A majority of Benton County justices of the peace are perplexed about why County Judge Dave Bisbee kept them in the dark about $65,000 in grant money used on security cameras for the County Administration Building when the original intent for the money was to implement a reverse-911 system. Bisbee has criticized former County Judge Gary Black’s administration for not being involved in the county’s pursuit of the emergency calling system; Bisbee killed the project when he took office. Bisbee then used the grant money on the security cameras without the JPs – the county’s governing body – knowing about the change. In an interview with The Daily Record last week, Black said he knew about the reverse-911 project. Minutes of the Aug. 5, 2008, Benton County Finance Committee meeting show the committee voted to pursue reverse 911. On Aug. 12 – with 12 of 13 JPs present – the Committee of 13 voted unanimously to support the project.

The way the story has played out has left more than a few JPs questioning Bisbee’s move. “Bisbee made a big deal about the policymakers not being a part of the expenditures, and of course, that turned out to be wrong,” Justice of the Peace Kurt Moore said. “But (Bisbee) did not bring it back to the policymakers (the Quorum Court) when he decided to change what he was going to do with (the grant money).” Justice Bob Stephenson backed Moore’s sentiments.

Quinn. The operator of the L train was among the four with serious injuries.

Municipal Railway spokesman Judson True said the transit agency will conduct a speedy investigation and get to the bottom of the crash so that such an accident does not happen again. “We take this incredibly seriously,” he added. Officials said 48 people were taken to hospitals _ four with what appeared to be severe injuries _ when an L train struck the end of a K train at the boarding platform of the West Portal Station on Saturday afternoon. “This is probably one of the largest multiple-casualty incidents in recent years (in San Francisco),” said Pat Gardner, a deputy chief with the San Francisco Fire Department.

Witnesses said the westbound L train barreled into the K train as it emerged from a tunnel connecting downtown San Francisco to the city’s western neighborhoods. The front of the L train was smashed, while the K train suffered less damage. The operator of the L train was among the four with serious injuries. Officials said all the injured passengers were conscious and about half sustained moderate injuries. The cause of the crash was under investigation, and True said investigators would look at “mechanical and human issues.
