Itunes Download. Apple Bars Palm from iTunes: Is Pre a Threat?

Was it wrong for Apple to close the “hole” to the palm?: yes. Why would they write an iTunes client that can run on Windows if they didn’t want only Apple Macintosh products to use their software. They obviously know that if they completely close off the access to their services, sales would suffer. So yes Apple did write a Windows client for use on a MAC.

Did Microsoft write a MAC OS client for Windows? No. They don’t see a threat. If they didn’t close off iTunes from Microsoft using it, then why did they close it off to Palm? Because they see a possible threat.

Triangle. ROBERT HARDMAN: A very cruel fete: Elf ‘n’ Safety goons cast a shadow over the best of British village life

No one, it is safe to say, has ever muddled it up with Mardi Gras in Rio. But Swanmore is rightly proud of its carnival and fete. This afternoon, as they did last July, the residents of this pleasant Hampshire village will come together for a classic celebration of British country life. After the grand carnival procession through the village, everyone will congregate on the pretty and spacious green triangle that is the recreation ground. There will be a motorbike display team, children’s rides, 37 stalls, a classic car and bike rally, and a display of Appalachian step-dancing (move over, Morris Men).

People enjoying a summers day at a traditional English garden fete in Arnesby, Leicestershire After months of diligent planning, the organisers, the Meon Valley Lions Club, hope to help local charities raise thousands of pounds. But there will be one change to this year’s event. The carnival procession will not have any floats. The 2009 procession has been reclassified as a ‘walking parade’.

Urban Cowboy. Like many of the over 50 top names in Italian fashion who showed this round, Armani livened up his basic grey and beige palette with flashes.

MILAN – Second lines, D&G and Emporio Armani closed the four days of menswear preview showings for the spring-summer 2010, and summed up the current “all business” fashion mood. Returning to the urban styles which made them famous, Italian designers are putting men back into suits and ties after many a season of wardrobes for globe-trotting vacationers. Hit hard by the current economic crisis they know that a good suit is a good sell. “The collection is very ‘city smart,’ ” Giorgio Armani said of his much applauded show Tuesday, which combined classic cotton suits with intricately knit pullovers and workout stretch pants. The group of bikers who rode down the runway at the end of the show underlined the contemporary city feel of the collection.

Like many of the over 50 top names in Italian fashion who showed this round, Armani livened up his basic grey and beige palette with flashes of colour including bright red and orange which he used for suits and sweaters alike. Also Tuesday designing duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, presented their own take on urban fashion for the younger set – a contemporary version of Midnight Cowboy. The D&G cowboy wears distressed jeans and Camperos boots with a gold buttoned blazer or velvet tuxedo jacket, but he also likes the showy feel of a beaded jeans jacket. Like the flashes of colour, beading was another fashion ploy used in many of the shows to spiff up the staid classic styles.

Path Alerts. SKorea: North’s nukes aren’t bargaining chips

Meanwhile, leaders from South Korea and the U.S. demanded the release of their citizens detained in the secretive nation. The detainees are two U.S. journalists arrested on the China-North Korea border three months ago and a South Korean maintenance worker accused of slandering the regime.

Little is known about the status of their cases. South Korean President Lee Myung-bak delivered his stern warning to the North in a nationally televised Memorial Day speech honoring the country’s war dead at Seoul’s National Cemetery. “I would like to make it clear that there will be no compromise against things that threaten our people and security,” Lee said, in a reference to the North’s May 25 underground nuclear blast and recent missile tests. Lee’s words echoed those of U.S. officials, who have also said the North’s former tactics of using military threats to win much-needed food and energy aid would no longer work.

Billy. Goat leaves the Royal Welsh Regiment

Major L/Cpl Ryan Arthur of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh, leads the regiment’s goat William Windsor on his retirement parade Photo: PA Billy the goat, a fully-fledged member of the Battalion, was clad in ceremonial dress as soldiers wished him farewell before his trip to a new home at Whipsnade Zoo. Nine-year-old Billy, whose full name is William Windsor, has held the responsibility of leading the Battalion on all ceremonial duties during his seven years of duty. His successor, a kid selected from a Welsh herd, will take up the post in June. Related Articles “When people hear that we have a goat among the battalion, they think we must be kidding,” said Captain Nick Zorab who explained Billy’s service was in keeping with a 200-year-old tradition. The regimental goat has been customary since the American War of Independence, when a wild goat rambled onto the battlefield and then took it upon himself to lead the regimental Colours at the end of battle.

In 1884 Queen Victoria then presented the regiment with a goat from the Royal herd, and the tradition has continued ever since. Billy’s replacement will come from a herd on the Great Orme in North Wales. Much-loved Billy is well cared for by a full-time Goat Major, who is in charge of his wellbeing.

James Beard Awards 2009. Kristen’s article about the pork farming co-op that provides the meat for Chipotle restaurant,

The are like The Oscars for the culinary world. Kristen’s article about the pork farming co-op that provides the meat for Chipotle restaurant, and the visionary farmer behind it, makes an excellent case for the humane treatment of animals meant for slaughter. With several branches in South Florida, it’s good to know that Chipotle stands by its mission to provide food with integrity.

At least the pork in their burritos comes from pigs that live happy, drug free lives in wide open spaces before they meet their fate at the slaughterhouse, although the way they’re killed in gas chambers or by electric shock is still pretty disturbing after hearing how much their behaviors resemble that of humans. The James Beard Awards for chefs and restaurants will be presented today and we congratulate Chef Douglas Rodriguez from OLA and Chef Michael Schwartz from Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink in Miami for their nominations for Best Chef South and Chef Michelle Bernstein for Sra. Martinez’s nomination for best new restaurant.

Fatback. Southern Thymes Cafe: Meat

The downtown Greer restaurant has been open for four years, and it serves breakfast and lunch seven days a week. Southern favorites such as country ham, fried flounder and country-style steak are on the lunch menu. The breakfast menu has a couple of items that makes it different when compared to a traditional meat-and-three, like a Tex Mex quesadilla and eggs Benedict.

“People label us as a meat-and-three, but once in a while, we throw something else in the mix to throw them off,” said Mitchell, the restaurant’s owner, who was able to get some reluctant customers to try carrot souffle. Southern Thymes has a homey setting, with two dining rooms. One has a mix of tables, booths and stools at a counter. Customers talk with friends at other tables and joke with waitresses during lunch. Another dining room has large tables that are popular with families.
