Starcasm. That changed after he sailed through a high school project, came to believe that career largely would be lonely numbers-.

And he’s a picker of nits as fussy as the particular Pinkel. He so detests the Times New Roman font, for instance, that he’s been known to order graduate assistants to do over reports if they come in what he considers the lazy, default type face. “Everybody teases him about his hair,” Pinkel said. “Let’s analyze this for a second: First of all, he’s a very, very bright guy. He’s a family man, a great role model, very caring to all our players and one of the best teachers and coaches I’ve ever been around.

” Paralleling his surfer-dude surface, complete with a soul patch and a dolphin tattoo on his leg, the 39-year-old Yost’s rise is brimming with improbable flourishes. Growing up in Carrollton, Ohio, a village of 2,000, Yost initially hoped to be an accountant. That changed after he sailed through a high school project, came to believe that career largely would be lonely numbers-crunching and thought, “There is no way I want to do that the rest of my life.” By the time he enrolled at Kent State, Pinkel’s alma mater, he was fixated on teaching kindergarten.

Anthony Randolph. Golden State Warriors : Summer

Summer-league record by … guess who? Summer-league record by … guess who? Anthony Randolph continued his campaign for MVP of the Las Vegas Summer League, tying a league record with 42 points in Tuesday’s 95-83 win over Chicago. Randolph spent almost as much time on the floor as he did on his feet, getting sent to the foul line 21 times and connecting on 16 from the stripe. Unaware of the record, the Warriors didn’t feed Randolph the ball on their last two possessions, which drew loud boos from the Cox Pavilion crowd. Randolph tied Marcus Banks and Von Wafer, who each had 42 points in 2007. The Warriors now have three of the league’s top single-game performances with Marco Belinelli and Ike Diogu each putting up 37 points. Randolph, who is averaging 26.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks a game, turns 20 on Wednesday. * Cartier Martin, the most-pleasant surprise on the Warriors’ roster, did not play against Chicago because of a strained left shoulder. The wing is averaging 19.7 points and 4.3 rebounds and has caught the attention of NBA scouts with his hustle and ability to play team defense.

Though Martin is expected to play in Thursday’s finale, this puts a little speed bump on his route to an NBA gig. He most likely would not have gotten the fully-guaranteed contract he was seeking anyway, but a partially-guaranteed or a make-good contract for training camp is still probable.

Houston High Speed Chase. Dock dogs take the plunge

The dogs weren’t the only ones enjoying themselves on yet another day of triple-digit heat. Spectators crowded under covered bleachers while an emcee bragged on the canine contestants and familiar tunes blared overhead. Excited kids lined “the splash zone” along the pool in hope of being doused by cold water from the doggie belly flops. Entrants competed for cash and medals. There were 283 competitors in Houston this year, up almost 200 entrants from last year’s event.

The event also helped raised more than $800 for research for Chase Away K-9 Cancer. Although there were plenty of dedicated hunters and some trainers on hand, there were scores of first-timers and families who just wanted to test their dogs’ skills and have some fun. Any dog more than 6 months old is welcome, as are human handlers older than 7. Morgan Nicholas, a 13-year-old Huntsville girl, trained her year-old yellow Lab, Ranger. It was his first year at Dock Dogs, and the two practice every day at the pond in her family’s pasture.

Awards Live Stream. Police find no crime by Jackson doctor says LA Times

The Jackson family had yet to announce funeral arrangements for the 50-year-old King of Pop. But a family friend told Reuters that a service could be held on Thursday and that the family wanted to bury Jackson at his famous Neverland Ranch.  The death of one of the most gifted musical performers of his generation prompted tributes and condolences, from US President Barack Obama to legions of fans in Hollywood. Top performers were set to honor Jackson at the BET Awards in Los Angeles on Monday.  It was still unclear what, if any, role Jackson’s prescription medicines might have played in his sudden death on Friday.

The family carried out its own autopsy on Sunday after the Los Angeles Coroner said it would need four to six more weeks to determine the exact cause of death.  Late on Sunday, police interviewed cardiologist Dr Conrad Murray in a second meeting that lasted three hours. The doctor was hired ahead of Jackson’s comeback concert series in London this month. .

NEW YORK – General Motors Corp. said Tuesday that it has tentatively agreed to sell its Hummer brand, a day after the U.S. automaker filed for bankruptcy protection with hopes that it will transform its most profitable assets into a new company within just 30 days. The Detroit-based company did not name the proposed buyer or the price, but said the sale will likely save more than 3,000 U.S. jobs in manufacturing, engineering and at various Hummer dealerships.

Closing List. Chrysler to close Hamilton dealership; Oxford dealer to sell pre

Another business closing in Hamilton! I was hoping Chrysler would keep them off the chopping block. Perhaps Mr. Smith can continue as a used vehicle lot as University is going to do. KR 2009-05-14 22:02:29.605 Difficult times for a lot of good folks.

Much of this economic mess can be laid at the feet of the very government who is now borrowing and spending trillions of dollars that don’t exist to “save” us from ourselves. Their track record with Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Fannie & Freddie, etc. speaks volumes.

Taylor Dooley. Scranton MMA card adds two matches

The amateurs are getting hungry, many just a little more than a month away from their historic first mixed martial arts bouts inside the cage, in front of local fans. But the biggest sign that the first MMA card in Pennsylvania is just around the corner is the fact that the professional fighters are gearing up, too. Two more professional bouts have been signed for Cage Fight 1, said Maury Nehme of Northeast MMA, the card’s promoter. That brings to five the number of pro fights contracted to go off during the June 12 card at Riverfront Sports Complex in downtown Scranton, and Nehme said one more likely will be added in addition to the full slate of amateur matches in the works.

The latest matches announced include a battle of heavyweights, and a matchup pitting an up-and-coming youngster against a veteran wrestler in the middleweight division. In the heavyweight bout, 246-pound New Yorker Randy Smith (6-5) will face unbeaten 22-year-old Joel Wyatt (3-0). A Richmond, Va., native, Wyatt is 250 pounds and classified as a striker/grappler. Bobby Gorham, a Troy, N.Y., native whose only pro fight resulted in a four-second knockout, takes on veteran Ryan Victory (3-4) in the lightweight bout.
