Milledgeville. “They [the Zetas] seem optimistic and are awaiting for the outcome from the city council next month,” Binion said.

The Milledgeville Planning and Zoning Board unanimously approved a North Columbia Street home for special use for a group residence Monday. A residence at 201 N. Columbia St. owned by local resident Robert Binion was the only item on the agenda as Binion sought to have the board approve a request for a special use of property which, if approved by Milledgeville City Council, would pave the way for 13 residents, all of the Georgia College & State University Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, to live in the house.

The property has been the object of controversy within the city for more than two years as Binion has worked around the council’s establishment of the special use possibility since Council established the no-more-than-three-unrelated-persons ordinance in November 2006 under the reasoning of protecting single-family neighborhoods. John Alton, who claims residence on Liberty Street in the historic downtown area and is the current head of the Milledgeville Historic Preservation Commission, has frequently been a vocal opponent against requests similar to Binion’s in the past during both Planning & Zoning board meetings and meetings of the Milledgeville City Council. Alton spoke before the Planning & Zoning Board Monday to voice his opinion against the request to modify the residence to allow for multiple unrelated persons to reside at the property. “On three sides [of the property] it’s single family, and that’s the way that it can stay.

Chris Kattan. Big Cinemas Opens New Chicago Cineplex

It’s all part of an influx of money and ambition to bring Bollywood to America.  Indian business has already begun to finance Hollywood films and more Indian films are playing in the States. Whether those forms of cross-pollination can result in more miracles like “Slumdog Millionaire” is another question. Films opening Friday include “99,” a Hindi romantic comedy-adventure hybrid, “Ghajini,” an action-thriller featuring mega-star Aamir Khan, as well as non-Bollywood fare, including movies in Telugu, Punjabi, and Malayalam. BIG plans to open similarly souped-up theaters in New York, D.C., Detroit, Atlanta and Los Angeles in coming months.

The Chicago launch comes at a bleak moment for Bollywood. Studios are struggling to finance films. Producers have been on strike for nearly two months, refusing to deliver new movies until multiplexes agree to share more of the profits. Some overseas theaters that specialize in current Bollywood fare have shut down temporarily as a result.

Grilled Corn. A couple of more good reasons: The dinner price includes selected beers for adults, and a special selection of root beers and lemonade for the kiddos.

Actually, I think there’s a ten dollar surcharge for the partridge — and on Sunday, for the same ten-spot per person, you can add a Maine lobster supplement. I’m serious about the lobster. A couple of more good reasons: The dinner price includes selected beers for adults, and a special selection of root beers and lemonade for the kiddos. Dinners take place 5:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m., and will also be held every Friday throughout the summer.

Except this one, as noted, is uniquely holiday-ish. Call to reserve:305-893-4211. North One 10 will be resting on May 25th and 26th, and reopening for service on the 27th.

California. Educators split on propositions that would create school funding

There is one thing educators can seem to agree on: The propositions are not a long-term fix to the state’s ongoing problems, which always hit public schools, colleges and universities hard because education makes up half of California’s budget. With that in mind, many educators may hold their noses as they vote for the measures today, except perhaps for Proposition 1F, which prohibits pay raises for lawmakers in deficit years. “We can’t have a better tomorrow if we ignore the funding crisis our schools face today,” California Teachers Association President David Sanchez said in a statement. “Propositions 1A and 1B especially need to pass if the state is to begin repaying our schools the more than $9 billion they are owed by law.” California Teachers Association member Char Biddle, a San Lorenzo Valley Elementary teacher for 20 years, agreed.

“We’ve lost some people we feel are really valuable,” Biddle said. “And we don’t want to lose anymore.” Barry Kirschen, president of the Greater Santa Cruz Federation of Teachers, agreed that the spending cap outlined in Proposition 1A could lower minimum funding levels for schools in later years.

Cold Blood. Read this over coffee

Go ahead: That cup of joe won’t hurt you, the latest research says. It might even help you. Judy Foreman, Health Sense May 18, 2009 Coffee drinkers, rejoice! The heavenly brew, once deemed harmful to health, is turning out to be, if not quite a health food, at least a low-risk drink, and in many ways a beneficial one. It could protect against diabetes, liver cancer, cirrhosis and Parkinson’s disease. What happened? Lots of new research, and the recognition that older, negative studies often failed to tease apart the effects of coffee and those of smoking because so many coffee drinkers were also smokers.

“Coffee was seen as very unhealthy,” said Rob van Dam, a coffee researcher and epidemiologist at the Harvard School of Public Health. “Now we have a more balanced view. We’re not telling people to drink it for health. But it is a good beverage choice.

Talladega. Late crash injures seven race fans

The fence bowed, but held, and Edwards returned safely to the racing surface — another “Big One” to thrill the fans. Only this time, seven people were hurt and one of the lasting images of Sunday’s race will be the pink-clad woman strapped to a stretcher, her head in a brace as she was airlifted to a hospital after debris from Edwards’ last-lap crash with winner Brad Keselowski sailed into the grandstands. Edwards, who climbed from the fiery wreckage and crossed the finish line on foot, was thankful it wasn’t worse. “I’m glad the car didn’t go up in the grandstands,” he said.

“I saw some fencing at one point and that made me a little bit nervous. I don’t know if I could live with myself if I ended up in the grandstands.” Officials said seven fans sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and an eighth fan seated in the same section of the grandstand had an undisclosed medical issue. Dr. Bobby Lewis, Talladega’s onsite physician, said two people in the crowd were airlifted from the track to avoid the heavy traffic.

Lives. globeandmail.com: Bouvier kin, bigots and a brave war hero

, became a classic. The pair, remote from reality, existed in splendid squalor, bickered about the past – mainly their heyday in the 1930s – and, apparently lacking any sense of irony, displayed their extraordinary, poignant isolation. This movie is a dramatization of the period of the documentary, interspersed with key scenes from the past.

Drew Barrymore (also the producer) plays Little Edie and Jessica Lange plays her mother. Made mostly in and around Toronto (and co-written by Patricia Rozema), it’s wonderful. Barrymore is especially compelling as a woman thwarted in love. Very fine work from everyone involved.

Lizard People. They all drank light beers, like Budweiser, while she favored dark beers like Newcastle.

Jennifer Boynton hunts wild hogs with a bow and arrow and kills turkeys with a Beretta double-barreled 12-gauge shotgun because it makes her feel like a woman. And while her hunting buddies open up a Budweiser after a kill, Boynton celebrates by drinking beer she made in her kitchen and stores in old Newcastle bottles with the labels peeled off. Not that Boynton would ever drink beer from a bottle. Jennifer Boynton bottles beer in her backyard that she brews at home. Columbia City Council members have approved microbreweries in the city.

Boynton, an avid turkey hunter, has brewed her own beer for years. She calls it ÒTurkey Hunter Ale,Ó because Òevery time I kill a turkey I drink a beer.Ó She started brewing a few years ago over a dispute with her turkey hunting buddies. They all drank light beers, like Budweiser, while she favored dark beers like Newcastle. She brewed a dark beer for all of them to drink, and has been doing it ever since.

Billy Corgan. ‘Housewives’ shine at Bravo A

Six housewives from Orange County were among the main attractions at the second annual Bravo A-List Awards Sunday night, which also featured several other local reality stars. The fourth-season cast of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” appeared dressed to the nines at the cable network’s celebration of the best in food, fashion, beauty, design and pop culture. While the inaugural event was held in New York last year, Sunday night’s affair took place at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. As with other awards shows, a red carpet welcomed arrivals, who posed for pictures and chatted with the press. “This is really neat,” said Gretchen Rossi of Costa Mesa, one of the newest cast members on the popular reality TV series, which wrapped in February with very good ratings. “This doesn’t happen every day.

Being part of this whole thing is really an honor.” “It’s partying central,” chimed in Tamra Barney of Ladera Ranch, who wore a beautiful, strapless, dark pink dress to the occasion. The O.C. housewives weren’t alone.
